Winter finally came even to Spain. During the last weekend temperatures dropped in almost the entire country.
Spain’s National Meteorological Institute (AEMET) has issued an orange alert (class 2) between 22 and 24 centimeters of snow in Asturias for today. A total of 38 provinces in 15 regions are alerted for strong waves, rain, cold, snow and wind.
The orange warnings for snow applies to Andalucia, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Navarra, Valencia, Basque Country and Asturias. While Madrid has yellow warning (class 1 warning) of snow. In southern Spain and the Balearic Islands snowline is between 900 and 1,300 meters above sea level. In northern Spain, it is between 500 and 900 meters.
The temperature is expected to fall to -9 degrees on the Spanish highlands in ski resorts like Guadalajara and in the mountains around Madrid. For Malaga comes warnings about strong winds that can reach over 70 km / h.
