The biggest party on the Costa del Sol and also one of the world’s biggest street parties lasts about a week from Saturday 13 to Saturday 20 August 2016.
But what many may not know, is that the spectacular opening ceremony is already on the Friday before.
On Friday August 12th, just before midnight, the traditional opening ceremony of the Fair takes place on the Málagueta Beach. It’s the popular singer and composer Vanesa Martín who is inaugurating the Fair this year. At midnight a gigantic firework breaks loose and afterwards the party continues with artist performances at the beach. Everything is as usual completely free.
What it’s about
The Fair in Malaga is considered one of the world’s biggest street parties and is a colorful experience. During the day there is a huge street party, primarily in the old town and down by the harbour. In the evenings the festivities are moving out to the 800,000 square meter fair ground where the party goes on until dawn every day. There are shuttle buses between downtown and the fair ground all night, so it’s easy to get back and forth.
The Fair is visited by millions each year. A number of cruise ships with thousands of passengers are also arriving during the Fair. In connection with the Fair Ground, there is obviously a big parking lot, but it’s smart not to bring the car to the Fair. The commuter train is a much better option. Many people choose to park for free at Plaza Mayor and then take the train the last stretch to Málaga. If you want to get to the day Fair in the centre you should get off at Málaga Central. If you are going to the evening Fair it is easiest to get off at Victoria Kent.
