There are many excellent water parks in Spain. In TripAdvisor’s annual ranking of waterparks, Siam Park in Tenerife was voted as number one in the world.
This is the third consecutive year that Siam Park is on top of the list, not only in Europe but also as the world’s best water park. Trip Advisor’s ranking is based on user ratings of the various parks during the past 12 months.
In addition to the unique Siam Park, Spain has several other great water parks. Ranked as number two in Spain and number 21 in Europe, is Aqualandia in Benidorm. In third place and a European 24th place is Flamingo Aqua Park in Torrevieja. The Spanish fourth place is held by PortAventura Caribe Aquatic Park in Salou which is ranked as number 25 in Europe.
Some facts about Siam Park, Tenerife
The park is located in Adeje in southern Tenerife and is built on a hill so that the water slides are aligned with the terrain, avoiding the many ugly constructions that most water parks have. The park covers an area of 18.5 acres and the theme is as the name suggests Siam. The park’s 25 buildings are the largest collection of Thai buildings outside Thailand. The restaurants serve Thai food and international family favorites. The park also has a floating market.
The water park is the world’s first green water park and the first outdoor water park that has “water conditioning”, ie that the water is being heated / cooled to continuously keep 25 degrees. Not to prey on the island’s water resources. the water park has its own desalination plant which desalinates 700 cubic meters of seawater per day. Once the water has been used by the visitors, the water is being recycled and used to irrigate the park’s vegetation.
Aqualandia was opened on June 28th 1985 and immediately became very popular. At the time it was Spain’s only water park. Since then there have been many updates and there are now almost 20 different attractions in the park. In 2002 the Big Bang was opened with 4 different water slides, the tallest is 28 meters. But already in 2013 a higher water slide was opened, Verti-Go which with its 33 meters height is the world’s highest, reaching speeds of 100 km/h.
Aqualandia covers an area of 150,000 square meters and has 50,000 square meters of free parking. This makes it Europe’s largest water park and one of the largest in the world.
Aqua Park Flamingo, Torrevieja
Flamingo is not Torrevieja’s largest water park. Aquopolis is the largest in Torrevieja and also the second largest water park in Spain. Even Rojales Water Park in Quesada is slightly larger than the Flamingo. But Flamingo is very popular, especially among those who have small children who do not enjoy the highest water slides. They also hav more lifeguards, thus the parents will be able to relax more. In addition, the entrance fee is reasonable, particularly in relation to Aquopolis which costs almost twice as much. Sunbeds and parking is free but it is not allowed to bring your own food.
