The first 50 of Spain’s seatbelt control cameras were activated on Monday 11. September.
After speeding, not wearing a seat belt is the second leading cause of death on European roads, higher than drink-driving. Short trips, such as back and forth to school, are those causing most risk for accidents and injuries.
During the two first months of their operation, Tráfico will only send out a warning letter to the owner of the vehicle that has been detected. After the first two months, fines will be issued.
