A recent judgment in Spanish Supreme Court determines that nudism – naturism is not a human right.
The reason for the sentence is a case in Castell-Platja d’Aro on the Costa Brava, where the municipality wanted to prohibit nudism because the beaches are also used by families with children. Naturists sued the municipality and said that it was a constitutional right. But now the Supreme Court has determined that it is not and that the municipalities are free to decide how they want it.
Castell-Platja d’Aro was quick to adapt to the judgment and has now introduced a 300 euro fine for showing up naked on municipal beaches while topless sunbathing is still allowed.
But there are still 450 beaches in Spain where nude bathing is permitted.
