Construction of the new large green area by urbanization El Chaparral and La Siesta is in progress and will be completed on schedule.
María del Carmen Gómez Candel, responsible for parks and gardens in Torrevieja municipality, says that work will be completed on schedule by the end of this year. She also says that the goal is to satisfy the needs of leisure activities for children, youth and adults, and that the facilities are going to be widely used by residents of the area.
It’s 40,000 square meter area, and the project is called “Taller de Empleo Mediterráneo VIII”. Works includes automatic irrigation, two roundabouts with fountains, benches, planting a variety of trees and lawns. Furthermore, there is a sports facility with arrangements for basketball, handball, football, small football pitches for children, a skate park, 14 petanque courts, a playground and a dog park.
The new park is financed by the municipality with a contribution from the Servicio Valenciano de Empleo y Formación (SERVEF) at € 362,643. The total cost is estimated at € 1,129,801.
40 students are participating in both the planning and implementation of the project. The students come from four different study lines: Garden (10 students), irrigation and drainage (10 students), brickwork (10 students) and surface and paving (10 students).
