Costa Blanca does not get it’s long-awaited coastal train that could have connected the coastal towns with Alicante and Madrid. Instead the government wants to invest in the train line to Marbella.
The Government believed that the coastal train on the Costa Blanca would not be profitable and thus these plans were shelved. During a visit to Malaga Development minister Ana Pastor told that the government was planning investments of 20 million euros on the railway line between Malaga and Fuengirola and that there are further plans to extend the railway line on the Costa del Sol on to Marbella and Estepona, according to the newspaper Información.
The railway line between Fuengirola and Marbella has been examined, launched and discarded a number of times over the past 15 years, but analyzes suggest that this could be among the most profitable railways in Spain.
It remains to see if words will turn into actions and the politicians will actually allocate the 4.5 billion euro needed to carry out the project.
