The major tourism fair, Fitur, was inaugurated today in Madrid by Queen Letizia. It is the 36th edition of this great event and it will be larger than ever.
A record number of 9,500 companies from 165 countries and regions are enrolled this year. The exhibition area is 57,850 square meters and it is expected that last year’s record of 222,551 visitors will be beaten this year.
During the fair, Fitur will host an intensive program of workshops and professional meetings. During last year’s fair FITUR hosted 5,000 business meetings and are thus an important forum for the global tourism market.
During a ceremony at the show today, the tourism award, “Merito Turistico 2015” was given to the refurbished hiking trail El Caminito del Rey in Ardales north of Malaga. It was prime minister Mariano Rajoy and Minister of Tourism Juan Carlos Hidalgo who presented the award and president of the Málaga province Elías Bendodo that received the award.

The fair Show opens on January 20, but the 20, 21 and 22, the fair is only open to professionals. On Saturday 23 and Sunday the 24. January is, however, also open to the public. Opening hours are: 20., 21 and 22 January at from 10am to 7pm. January 23rd 10 am to 8pm and January 24 from 10am to – 6pm.
