Seeing dolphins along the coast just north of the Costa Blanca is very common. Until now it was not known why, but now there’s an explanation.
First and foremost there have been many sightings between Villajoyosa and Denia. Why they appear there and in abnormally large groups of up to 30 animals, has so far remained a mystery. But according to the “Diario Información” scientists from the aquarium Oceanogràfic in Valencia believe that they have found the answer.
The fish farms in the area attract dolphins, since they eat the remains of the food for the farmed fish (sea bass and dorado). Furthermore the farms themselves attract other fish that the dolphins also eat.
