The Formula 1 circus 2016 kicks off today with the first four-day pre season tests at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
On the first day is there are 11 drivers who are conducting test runs. The first on the field was defending champion Lewis Hamilton. Four-time champion Sebastian Vettel who finished third last year, was also on the track with his Ferrari. Jenson Button McLaren was also among the first out. He probably hopes that the car will be better this year than last year’s car.
Hamiltons teammate Nico Rosberg is going to get into the game on Tuesday. The same applies to Buttons teammate Spaniard Fernando Alonso.
Mercedes that has been dominating during the last two F1 seasons are expected to be hard to beat even this years, since there has only been some minor changes in the rules for this season. Next year, however, significantly larger changes will be applied but the test sessions in Barcelona is going to give an indication of how this season will be.
The last test sessions for the 2016 season will be held on March 1 to 4 also in Barcelona. The first race will take place on March 20th in Melbourne, Australia.
Most teams have already launched their new cars online and through social media, but some teams made their official presentation to the media in the paddock this morning. Among them were Haas, the first US-led team in F1 since 1986, and Renault that has taken over the bankrupt Lotus. Mercedes and Force India also introduced their cars on the track.
