Málaga and Estepona begins a collaboration between their botanical parks, primarily exchanging plants and knowledge.
Málaga has a large variety of different parks, some in the middle of town and somw just outside. A park that should be mentioned in this context is Jardin Botanico de la Concepcion, located in the northern outskirts of the city. The foundations were laid in 1855 and it was officially recognized as “a garden of historical and artistic value” in 1943. Today it is a green oasis with more than 2,000 different species from many parts of the world and some of the trees are over 100 years old.
Estepona is in the process of building a botanical garden that will also include Europe’s largest orchid house with more than 8,000 species of orchids. It will contain two different departments, America and Asia. It will also have a spectacular 30 meter high glass dome and various waterfalls, one of them 15 meters high.
The opening of the orchid house is not so far into the future and is scheduled on March 28 this year.
Mayor of Estepona, José Maria Garcia Urbano, explained that this agreement will not involve any additional costs for the municipalities, and that it will be valid for five years.
