The cost of replacing gas bottles drops with 5% on Tuesday may 17th 2016. The gas will then be 32% cheaper than it was a year ago.
This means that the highest price of a typical household gas bottle (12.5 kg butane) is lowered to € 11.85. It’s the third time in a row that the price is being lowered. The price was € 17.50 at the highest.
The price of a bottle of gas is determined by the Ministry of Industry that makes a price review every month and the price is based on international prices, exchange rates, freight rates and commodity prices. This applies to gas bottles over 9 kg. For bottles under 9 kg, there is no price regulations. The price regulation does not apply to gas cylinders of 20 kg. The new prices apply until July 19th, when the next revision will be announced.
The price revision affects around 8 million consumers. According to the latest data from the “Comision Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia” 33.6% of Spanish households are using butane gas, 49% are using natural gas, 11.1% are using diesel and 2.5% are using propane. Propane is being used where there is a need for a higher effect or if the bottle must be stored below zero degrees celsius.
You will always get the lowest price if you replace the gas bottle at the supplier’s retail location. If you replace the bottle at a gas station or from the gas car it is always a bit more expensive.
Please remember that it is forbidden to transport more than two 12.5 kg gas bottles at the same time in a car because of the regulations for hazardous materials. This applies whether the bottles are full or empty. It is also forbidden to have stroe than two 12.5 kg gas bottles in your property.
It is also worth noting that the rubber hoses used in LNG systems are subject to aging and must be replaced periodically. The hoses are always marked with the expiry date and they must not be older than 5 years. It’s also a good idea to replace the gas valve (but it’s not mandatory). Hardware stores, garden shops and large department stores have complete sets of gas valves and hoses.
