The blood transfusion centre in Málaga has an acute shortage of blood of all blood types. Everyone who can, are now being asked to donate blood.
The regional blood transfusion centre in Malaga “El Centro Regional de Transfusion Sanguínea (CRTS)” supplies blood to all hospitals in the region. Their stock is now “under minimum” and they only have enough for one day’s needs, which poses a serious risk if a major accident should happen. The centre needs about 250 donations per day to prevent emptying of their stocks and this summer they are afraid that this will cause trouble.
In order to donate blood you must be healthy and between 18 and 65 years old and weigh over 50 kg. At each donation in Spain 450 ml of blood is being taken.
To solve the acute blood shortage, donors are requested to go to the blood bank at the “Hospital Civil” in Málaga. Today and tomorrow you may donate blood all day from 09 a.m. until 9 p.m.
There will also be mobile unites in the following locations:
- Malaga, in front of Corte Inglés from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
- Velez-Malaga, Plaza de las Carmelitas 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
- Alcaucin, Health center 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
