Ebola has now claimed its second victim when the Spanish priest Manuel García Viejo died on Thursday. The priest worked as a missionary in Sierra Leone where he was infected. Last Sunday he was transported to Spain and was treated in hospital Carlos III Hospital in Madrid, but died after only 4 days.
There is nothing left of the so-called miracle cure for Ebola, Z-mapp, that saved the lives of two Americans earlier this year, and it is not expected more of this medication to be ready until towards the end of the year.
The Ebola epidemy is expected to spread further and if the infection continues spreading as fast in the next 40 days, this is considered a global health catastrophe. World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that by the end of the year there may be 20,000 people suffering from Ebola, while the US Centre for Disease Control fear that between 500,000 and 1.4 million people will be infected by Ebola by the end of 2014
