81 arrested for downloading child porn

Spanish Police has carried out a nationwide swoop against sharing of child pornography in which 81 people have been arrested, of whom 79 men and two minors boys.

policiaThe arrests have been made thanks to a computer program that police has purchased. The program scoured the internet for several weeks last November for computers that downloaded 25 or more child pornography files. The arrests have since been conducted in six months – from May to October this year – in 28 Spanish provinces.

The suspected pedophiles shared a stream of videos and pictures of abused children, some with content that police describe as very brutal. There were partly sadistic elements with yearlings in diapers. For the downloading, they have used a system called Peer to Peer (P2P), which is very popular for downloading movies from websites such as eMule.

More than 300 police officers have been working on this case and they say that there may be more arrests. Those who are now arrested are currently being handled by 70 courts around the country and some of the defendants are already waiting the verdict.

An official of the Technical Investigation Unit (FIU) states that child pornography images that circulate on the Internet generally come from countries where there is little or no control over such activities. Especially from South America and Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Cambodia, where sex tourism is very prevalent, and from Russia.
