The Canarian government defends their descision to spend 100.000 euros on a campaign to halt drilling in Canarian waters.

The local government has been criticised for spending money on this campaign but Finance Minister Javier González Ortiz says that this is only a small fraction of the multi million euro tax break the spanish government has given to Repsol.

The money for the campaign, will include an opinion poll and hiring halls and rooms for public meetings where the dangers of the oil industry will be discussed.
