Santa Maria Golf in Elviria, Marbella
Santa Maria Golf Club is considered to be one of the best golf courses on the Costa del Sol. The first nine holes have been designed by Antonio García Garrido already 1991. The other nine holes was drawn by the golf clubs own technical team. In1996.
The club has a well-deserved place among the best golf courses on the Costa del Sol. The course offers players of all levels a great challenge. It is surrounded by an unbeatable beautiful nature, with views of the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains in the north. The fantastic clubhouse from 1800 century embodies club’s charm and character. The course is not long, but full of interesting game variants; each hole has its own personality and charm. Many tees are elevated and for example the views from the holes 10 to 16 are breathtaking: with the Mediterranean Sea which like a postcard in front of you and on sunny days you can see even to Africa.
Nature plays a leading role in Santa Maria Golf. The track follows the contours of the two valleys with plenty of natural vegetation while small rivers and four lakes are natural hinders. Large greens and elevated tees provides extra challenge for the player - and watercourses is all the time in play. It is water from the first hole, where you hit your tee shut right over a small lake, to the last hole, - where the view from the tee can be well frightening with a tree-lined water barrier in front of you to the left, before you can complete with your pitch to green.
Santa Maria has a good reputation for itself, as a social golf club which positively encouraging visitors. The club restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for those who want to enjoy the always green nature, good food and nice atmosphere. On the outdoor terrace with views of the track, and a great view of the La Mairena hills. The menu includes everything from classic Club sandwich or eggs and bacon to the oriental wraps (omelet filled with shrimps, chicken, pineapples, avocados, salad with cocktail sauce) or a la Carte.
The Club is planning to build a new modern clubhouse and a further 18 hole course, but the need for a driving range has currently been supplanted by new construction. There are also two tennis courts which are free for members, while visitors can book them for 14 e per hour.
As an experienced golfer here on the Costa del Golf I can safely say, that Santa Maria Golf Club is clearly on the upper half of the 10 best list on Costa del Sol.
