Alicante - Spain

Alicante is located on the eastern coast of Spain, in the area called Costa Blanca. It is one of the fastest growing cities in Spain and is very popular among expats. Alicante is also the capital of the province of Alicante, that includes the popular resort cities of Elche, Torrevieja, Villajoyosa and Benidorm.

The economy of Alicante is primarily based on tourism and 15% of the registered population is of foreign origin. The area has a mild climate and little rainfall. The average temperature in August is 26 degrees and in January the average temperature is 12 degrees.

Sights in Alicante

To get an overview of the city you might want to use the hop-on hop-off tourist bus. One of the most popular sights is the castle of Santa Bárbara, which has everything you would expect of an old castle. Alicante has many green areas and many beautiful parks. The two most beautiful parks in the city are called Canalejas and El Palmeral. You should also visit the port area - the marina, where there are lots of great restaurants and bars.

The Promenade in Alicante

Alicante's heart is the promenade La Explanada de España which extends around the harbor. Anyone who's been to Spain knows that Spanish families love to take a walk in the evenings and on Sunday afternoon, so here you will find a vibrant street life. Along the promenade you will find lots of coffee shops and small stalls.

Things to do in Alicante

Among the leisure activities available in Alicante is skydiving, golf, scuba diving and of course water sports of all kinds. The area around the city has a number of mountains and valleys that are perfect for hiking.
